At Nelson Millwork, craftsmanship runs in the family—spanning four generations of craftsmen who have dedicated their lives to building exceptional homes. Beginning with our great-grandfather in Salt Lake City, Utah, our family’s legacy is rooted in quality craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a passion for creating spaces that stand the test of time. Over a decade ago, we brought this rich tradition to Southern California, combining our heritage with a modern approach to meet the demands of the luxury market. Today, Nelson Millwork continues to honor our family’s legacy while redefining what’s possible in high-end construction.

Derek brings four decades of experience in fine woodworking, custom cabinetry, and architectural millwork to Nelson Millwork. A third-generation craftsman, he began working alongside his father at a young age, developing the skill, precision, and respect for the craft that have defined his career.

His depth of experience gives him an instinctive understanding of proportion, construction, materials, and the details that separate exceptional work from the ordinary. Derek is also a talented drawing artist, bringing an artistic eye and natural creativity to the design and execution of custom interiors.

Today, he continues to work hands-on alongside his son, Rayce, carrying forward a family tradition of craftsmanship while creating millwork intended to stand the test of time.
